The 2026 Nissan Rogue PHEV: Electric Driving with Gasoline Backup

The 2026 Nissan Rogue PHEV: Electric Driving with Gasoline Backup

The 2026 Nissan Rogue Plug-in Hybrid is Nissan's first plug-in hybrid offering in Canada. Designed for families seeking electric efficiency without range anxiety, this new model pairs a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a 2.4 L 4-cylinder gasoline engine and two electric motors. The result is a versatile SUV that delivers 61 km of all-electric range for daily commutes, with a total driving range of 687 km when the hybrid powertrain engages.

Arriving at dealerships in early 2026, the Rogue PHEV is offered exclusively in a well-equipped Platinum grade. It brings three-row, seven-passenger seating to the plug-in hybrid segment, addressing the needs of larger families who want to reduce fuel consumption without sacrificing space or capability. With standard Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and seven selectable drive modes, the Rogue PHEV is built to handle varied driving conditions across Ontario and beyond.

Powertrain and Performance

The 2026 Rogue PHEV's powertrain pairs electric and gasoline power to deliver responsive performance. The system includes a 2.4 L 4-cylinder engine producing 131 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque, paired with a front electric motor (114 horsepower, 188 lb-ft) and a rear electric motor (134 horsepower, 144 lb-ft). Combined system output reaches 248 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, enabling quicker acceleration than the standard Rogue.

Drivers can select from three powertrain modes to optimize efficiency. EV Mode runs purely on electric power for silent, zero-emission driving. Save Mode preserves battery charge for later use. Charge Mode uses the gasoline engine to recharge the battery while driving.

Regenerative braking offers two levels of intensity, activated by shifting from D to B or enabling the e-Step one-pedal driving function. This system recaptures energy during deceleration and helps extend electric range.

Electric Range and Charging

The 20 kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides 61 km of all-electric driving range, sufficient for most daily commutes and errands. When the battery is depleted, the hybrid system automatically engages, extending total range to 687 km. Fuel economy is estimated at 3.6 Le/100 km in combined electric and gasoline operation.

Charging the Rogue PHEV is straightforward. A full charge takes 7.5 hours using a Level 2 (240V) home charger, or approximately 16 hours using the included portable Level 1 (120V) charger. The Platinum grade includes the portable charger, which plugs into any standard household outlet for convenient overnight charging.

Seven Drive Modes for Versatile Capability

Standard Intelligent All-Wheel Drive works with seven drive modes to optimize power delivery and traction. Normal provides balanced performance for everyday driving. Power maximizes acceleration response. Eco prioritizes fuel efficiency. Tarmac is tuned for dry pavement. Gravel adapts to loose surfaces. Snow enhances traction in winter conditions. Mud optimizes torque distribution for soft terrain.

This flexibility makes the Rogue PHEV equally capable navigating city streets, highway commutes, and cottage country roads.

Three-Row Seating and Cargo Flexibility

The Rogue PHEV's interior is designed to accommodate active families. Three rows of seating provide space for seven passengers, with a second row that slides, reclines, and folds forward for easy third-row access. Rear-door pull-up sunshades and tri-zone automatic climate control help keep all passengers comfortable on longer journeys.

Cargo capacity is equally practical. With all seats in place, the Rogue PHEV offers 362 litres of space behind the third row. Fold the third row down, and capacity increases to 872 litres - enough for four golf bags. Lower both rear rows, and the cargo area expands to 1,832 litres, with the ability to accommodate objects up to 80 inches long. The wide, tall cargo area can even fit a mountain bike (minor adjustments such as wheel removal may be required depending on bike size).

A motion-activated power liftgate simplifies loading and unloading, while rear doors open to a 70-degree angle for easier access to child seats and cargo.

Technology and Connectivity

The Rogue PHEV Platinum comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of technology features. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides customizable driver information, while a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. The 10-inch head-up display projects key information onto the windshield, keeping the driver's eyes on the road.

Audio quality is elevated by a Bose premium sound system with nine speakers. Connectivity is covered by a wireless phone charger, two front USB ports (one USB-A, one USB-C), and two rear USB ports. For camping trips or tailgating, two 120-volt power outlets (one in the trunk, one for rear passengers) can operate small electrical appliances.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Nissan Safety Shield 360 comes standard, providing a comprehensive suite of active safety technologies. This includes Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking.

Intelligent Around View Monitor offers a 360-degree view around the vehicle, augmented by Moving Object Detection for added confidence when parking or maneuvering at low speeds. ProPILOT Assist with Navi Link provides steering assistance, braking, and acceleration support, along with Intelligent Cruise Control for highway driving.

The Rogue PHEV also includes 11 standard airbags for comprehensive occupant protection.

Premium Design and Comfort

The exterior design features 20-inch dark-painted wheels, black mirror caps, and black exterior trim for a bold, modern appearance. Multi-element LED headlights, LED fog lights, and LED taillights provide striking illumination. A power panoramic sunroof and gloss black roof rails complete the premium look.

Inside, leather-appointed seats, soft-touch dashboard materials, and door armrests create an upscale environment. Acoustically laminated front door glass helps reduce cabin noise. Heated front and rear seats, along with a heated steering wheel, ensure comfort during Ontario winters. Additional premium touches include door illumination and a genuine machined-aluminum trim plate around the shifter.
